Modern Florals

It’s still hot around these parts and mother nature is not exactly behaving like Fall. During a recent pinning bender, I came across some dramatic modern florals in the form of wall paper, fabric and art that really made me want to curl up with a book and a cup of tea on a chilly day. These new florals have a way of setting an elegant, moody, etherial and dramatic tone.  As you’ll see below in some of these pics, dark florals really pop against the contrast of white.  They’re absolutely made to go with brass finishes, and look equally amazing when paired with both modern and traditional accents. Oh my gawwwwwd they’re beautiful.

You can go bold and wallpaper an entire powder room, as seen below here from Amber Interiors. main.original.585x0

This elegant office makes wonderful use of the black and white contrast. Again I love the touches of brass on the bookshelf sconces. EllieCashmanDarkFloralWallpaperJaimeeRoseInteriors

All of the florals above are from Elle Cashman. She has a line of fabrics and pillows in silk, velvet and cotton which would be a more subtle way to bring in the look without having to commit to an entire wall or room. And lastly, I realize this mural from Ane Wall Decor isn’t exactly a floral. It’s more of a pastoral scene, but still cool in the right setting. See more from Ane Wall Decor here on Etsy. il_fullxfull.576201687_eq5e

I’m not overly committed to florals like these in my own home, but I can still appreciate them for the works of art they are. Now bring on the cooler weather please!

A Sunday at Serena & Lily

Last Sunday I took my family on a little day trip up to San Francisco. We decided it would be fun to take the girls to the vista point on the Sausalito side of the Golden Gate bridge and take in the breathtaking views of the city and the bay. It could have been cool, foggy and windy, but it was the most perfect sunny spring day. We enjoyed walking over the bridge and testing out my new DLSR camera — a gift from my husband for our anniversary. We had lunch in Sausalito and on the way back through the city, I talked them into swinging by the Serena & Lily design shop on Sacramento Street. I’ve been dying to get a look ever since they opened, and while it wasn’t my most brilliant of ideas to drag my 12 and 6 year old daughters in there with me, I really couldn’t help myself and I’m so glad I did.

The design shop isn’t huge, but it’s stocked with their signature fabrics, wall papers, rugs and sillouettes. It’s a gorgeous treasure trove of eye candy. Seriously, I almost had a stroke and I’m certain I had to wipe some drool from my chin at least once. They generously offer samples of their fabrics and wall papers. And so of course I took a few pictures for you to enjoy along with a giant stack of those samples!

I love the gorgeous dark slate colored paint and coastal feel of the planters featured on their store front.

This table, full of colorful linen napkins, cheerfully greets you when you walk in the front door.

A feature wall of their gorgeous signature fabrics.

This is a display featuring their Palmetto wallpaper. It’s to-die-for and this photo does not do it  justice. I’m obsessed, I mean inspired to find a way to bring some of this paper into my next room design. It’s truly gorgeous up close and you can actually see the raised paint on the paper.  (Excuse the reflection of me in the mirror.)

A lovely vignette featuring their Parisian side table and Cole lamp.

I’m inspired by this gallery wall. It’s a perfect complimentary combination of art from their collection and I love how it all pops against the white wall and new Fouta bedding.

Here are some selects from their online store for ways to achieve a similar look.           [Images  link back to the source at]
