Rincon House: Master Bedroom

Happy Sunday everyone. I don’t know about you, but in our house, Sundays are made for lounging in bed with coffee and iPad in hand. (For reading design blogs of course!) Speaking of lounging in bed,  I’m excited to share my master bedroom with you today. I’ve been slowly updating it over the past few months and waiting for the last piece of furniture to arrive and it’s ready for a look.

But first, here are some beautiful bedrooms that got me inspired.0b03fab9cb293cf4ad8faf16b51beeba018124fcbcc24ad23c0bd22f9728e31a34b14f5fbc103832974a543ebff7edec0adcbecba760fc9eccef410c707ffda7bb504e4240bc54382c692031dd01b39a

I wanted serene colors with layers of white, cream and blue. I lean towards classic lines, which lead me to the Chesterfield headboard. I love the tufting and the fact that it reads both masculine and feminine.  I also wanted some of that coastal, casual California feel, which is where the the scalloped capiz light fixture and vintage pillows came in. They add texture, character and dimension. And finally, I just had to incorporate some great pieces art, some of which I’ve found on Etsy and some that I’ve collected over the years.  Screen Shot 2016-02-07 at 10.36.33 AM

I hear there’s some kind of football game on today that everyone’s watching. I guess I better get out of bed and out to the store for snacks and drinks here pretty soon.  Enjoy!

Designer Spotlight: Caitlin Wilson

As much as some days I love soothing colors, today I’m excited to write about the bold design aesthetic of Caitlin Wilson, an interior and textile designer based out of Portland, Oregon. Countless times I’ve spotted pretty rugs and fabrics on Pinterest and Instagram and traced the source back to Caitlin. I’ve become a huge fan. Her textiles, rugs, wallpapers and interiors are loaded with personality, fun patterns and color, all the while remaining sophisticated, classic and unique. I’m betting you won’t be able to resist either.

Below are some lovely rooms from her design portfolio. I’m absolutely drooling over every detail of this kitchen and dining space from the brass hardware to the bistro chairs to her signature fabric on the barstools.

I adore her antique inspired Persian “Kismet” rug shown here in coral, but it also comes in navy and is equally beautiful. I’m plotting a place in my home for one. Perhaps kitchen…

I hope to get back into the swing of regular posting. Thanks for your patience while I had a few sporadic weeks. Very soon I’m taking some photos of my recently completed rooms and can’t wait to show you so stay tuned.

Wallpaper Beauty

Wallpaper is back! Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know this is not headline news. But I’m actually pretty excited about it. I love to see the way design trends get reinvented when they come back in style. I don’t want to give away my exact age, but let me just admit here that I’m old enough to have lived through the last wallpaper hey-day. I remember fondly how my mom took me to the local paint store and we poured over stacks and stacks of wallpaper books looking for the one that would work best in my “tween” bedroom. Oh yeah, this wallpaper ultimately had to coordinate with burgundy shag carpet and my tricked-out waterbed. I wish I could share with you the wallpaper that we were actually replacing. If I had the foresight to realize how cool that paper would have been to me today I would have kept a piece of it so I could show you, but you’ll just have to use your imagination — picture red, white and blue psychedelic swirls. So late 60s! (For the record, that paper predated my birth.) The paper I ultimately chose was a sweet little pink floral vine on a creamy white background. So 80’s. Alas in the 90’s everyone started ripping out all that “country” wallpaper in favor of paint (think faux finishes ala the “Tuscan” look) and here we are again in the middle of a wallpaper renaissance. Recent advances in technology have led to developments in digital printing, which in turn has brought a new generation of artists and designers. We’re seeing cool unexpected patterns and large-scale murals everywhere. Is it a trend? Yes and I’m sure we’ll get out our scrapers in 10 years in favor of something else, but for now I say live a little. Life is short so don’t be afraid to make design choices that make you happy.

Here’s a round-up of some papers I’ve had my eye on lately. These are some of my favorites from Hygge and West. They carry papers from a handful of amazingly talented designers and even carry removable wallpaper tiles.

How could you not love this pineapple design by Rifle Paper Co.? I’ve seen this used in a laundry room. It would be cute in a powder room too.HW_RPC009_Pineapple_Ebony_Detail_web_Rifle Paper

You may know that a number of fabric houses also produce some beautiful papers. I love this Sigourney pattern from Quadrille. Sigourney_wallpaper Sigourney_wallpaper_Muse_Interiors

Another great source for paper is Serena & Lily. You know from my past posts how much I adore them. wp_env

I particularly like to see wallpaper used as accents in small spaces like an entryway, bathroom, laundry room or accent wall. It can be a great way to make a big impact without spending a fortune. I’ll follow up with a post on some great rooms highlighting wallpaper soon. Until then…

Day dreaming

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve put up a new post. Want to hear my excuses?

Okay well the first was because I’ve been trying to “tidy up” the blog layout a bit. I was sort of in “soft launch” mode previoulsy, trying to find the time to figure out all the bells and whistles under the hood.  With a little help, I’ve been updating a few things. I’m still planning a few more updates, but so far so good.

My second excuse is that I’ve been traveling for my day job and I came back exhausted. Unfortunately, I don’t sleep well anywhere, except in my own bed. Call me a princess (as in The Princess and the Pea) if you like, but it’s true, so I usually need a few days to recover when I’m back.

All that lack of sleep had me day-dreaming of fluffy, luxurious, cloud-like beds like these below. I love white bedding, layers and soft, soothing colors in a master bedroom. Now I’m inspired to get moving on updating our master bedroom, but no I must focus and finish the living room. Pictures soon, I promise. Until then…
