Happy Sunday everyone. I don’t know about you, but in our house, Sundays are made for lounging in bed with coffee and iPad in hand. (For reading design blogs of course!) Speaking of lounging in bed, I’m excited to share my master bedroom with you today. I’ve been slowly updating it over the past few months and waiting for the last piece of furniture to arrive and it’s ready for a look.
But first, here are some beautiful bedrooms that got me inspired.
I wanted serene colors with layers of white, cream and blue. I lean towards classic lines, which lead me to the Chesterfield headboard. I love the tufting and the fact that it reads both masculine and feminine. I also wanted some of that coastal, casual California feel, which is where the the scalloped capiz light fixture and vintage pillows came in. They add texture, character and dimension. And finally, I just had to incorporate some great pieces art, some of which I’ve found on Etsy and some that I’ve collected over the years.
Rising Clouds Art // RH Chesterfield Headboard // Dark Seas Art // Capiz Chandelier // French Ring Sheet Set // Vintage Indigo Hmung Tribal Pillow
And Voila!Touch up paint still needed on the ceiling where we replaced the light fixture.
I hear there’s some kind of football game on today that everyone’s watching. I guess I better get out of bed and out to the store for snacks and drinks here pretty soon. Enjoy!
New Year’s resolution #1 is to finally share some of our remodeling progress with you. I know, shame on me! It’s one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place. It’s been over two years now since we moved into our home and as I’ve mentioned before there’s a long list of things that need to be done to bring the house up to this century. The first thing we did was renovate the kitchen, install new floors and update the living room by adding recessed lighting and updating the fireplace surround and staircase. These updates made a huge difference and we’re really happy with them, but I needed to add the finishing touches by updating the decor in the living room.
We wanted a new sofa and seating arrangement so I used that as a jumping off point and decided to tackle the room as a whole. Our previous home had a vintage-cottage vibe, but for this home I wanted to update our furnishings and bring in items with more of a modern polish. I love to mix old and new, clean lines with soft, graphic with organic, rustic with shine. You get the idea. The bones of our house are somewhat traditional and classic, which I love, but I wanted to mix in a little “modern California”. I also wanted to step outside my comfort zone a bit by adding some fun color and pattern. I’m really happy with the finished project and excited to be able to share it with you. Our new sofa is from Restoration Hardware. It’s a modern sillouette covered in a family friendly Perennials fabric. This little corner nook needed a major update. The previous cushion was inherited from the former owners of the home and was covered in a peach and blue tropical print. I love the way the lilac block print looks with the black and white dot. The lamp and side table were splurges I almost didn’t make, but I’m so happy that I did.I love the blue velvet side chairs and fun star print fabric. Below is a photo that shows the fireplace and floors mid-construction. The wood paneling is beautiful, but the finish was a pinkish whitewash, circa 1992. We had the mantle re-built a new stone slab installed and of course painted the paneling white. I’ll share more rooms soon. We’re currently working on the master bedroom and I’m plotting the bathroom renovations… one of these days.
Happy Friday you guys! I’m excited to announce, my new sofa and coffee table were delivered today. So, as promised, here’s a sneak peak of my updated living room. I’m still waiting on the custom chairs, rug, side table and a few small odds and ends so until then…
Have a great weekend!
It felt like Christmas at my house yesterday. I came home to discover the lighting I had ordered a few weeks ago had arrived on my doorstep. As you know from my previous post, we completed our kitchen remodel last summer. Since then, I’ve been plotting my next move. Almost every room in this house needed some kind of attention so it’s been hard to choose, but I decided to get focused (sort of) and get to the living room and the lighting. Here’s a sneak peek at what was inside those boxes and some breadcrumbs to reveal what’s coming to the living room in the next couple of months. I have many items on order and let’s just say the UPS guy is going to be wearing a path to our front door.
This gorgeous brass flush mount fixture from Circa Lighting is going in the hall.
It will replace this:
This baby is mercury glass. It’s very large and impressive in person and will be finding a home in the LV. Another beauty from Circa.
And lastly, this guy is going at the top of the stairwell. Another goodie from Circa of course.
To replace this:
Here’s look at some things to come. A pair of these custom Lee chairs in beautiful indigo colored fabric…
Pillows in this fun fabric by Peter Dunham:
Some accessories like these wishbone paperweights to pull it all together.
Stay tuned for more. I promise to fill you in and share pics of the finished room in about a month or so.
