The Coffee Station

I blinked and all of a sudden it was back to school time! That means getting back into the morning routine, getting up earlier and packing lunches. (Plus blogging more!) I could do none of this without my old friend coffee. Since the very first thing I do in the morning is stumble into the kitchen to make this magical liquid of life, I have a little tray next to the coffee maker with all essentials like beans, spoons, cups, filters and sugar. It seems I’m not the only one who enjoys the convenience of a coffee station. Here’s a look at some ideas for building your own.

If you don’t have dedicated counter top space, you can use a little rolling cart or a pretty side table, like these below. c5d09102e71eaa3cc3986ddd82742703 new-coffee-cart-6a00d8358081ff69e201b7c6d8200c970b-800wi_1 home-coffee-station-7 12471bfc62121435b969981bc95f9487 Images Via Pinterest

I Could Move Right In: Saltbox by the Beach

I recently stumbled upon this amazing coastal home located in New England. It’s a renovated saltbox by the extremely talented Lisa Tharp Design.  You know I’m a sucker for a beautiful beach house and couldn’t wait to share this one with you. It’s an amazing combination of coastal-meets-vintage farmhouse where texture and light reign supreme:Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.59.21 AM

The exterior features classic cedar shingles, white trim and wide open doors to bring the outside in. Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.57.04 AMThis light-filled built-in would be perfect for curling up with a good book.Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.56.13 AM Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.56.43 AM

There’s a great simplicity about this kitchen. I love all the white with gorgeous contrasting wood touches in the counter, directors chairs and a pop of art behind the cooktop.Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.56.55 AMThis chandelier is amazing and perfect for this dining room. Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 10.03.29 AM Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.57.44 AM Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 9.59.04 AMHow beautiful is this navy grass-cloth accent wall? Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 10.05.34 AMCheck out the brass fixtures and boardwalk planks in the indoor/outdoor bathroom. 10 Ways to Get the Beach House Look

It’s Memorial Day weekend and that means the unofficial start of the summer season is upon us. For me, summer is synonymous with the beach. I’m lucky enough to live within a 10 minute drive to the ocean and I’ve always loved the light and airy beach house aesthetic. To me that means adding subtle and classic details like texture, stripes and touches of blue. Nothing over-the-top or too “theme” like. So here are 10 ways to get the beach house look.www.CottageNumber46.com

One: Keep it Light. White paint, light flooring and upholstery with some contrasting accessories will give that easy, breezy look.Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.30.32 AM

Two: Add Texture. In the form of grass cloth, linen, rattan, sisal rugs, baskets and block prints. Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.50.52 AM

Three: Just Add Stripes. This is easy to do with pillows, rugs, window coverings and even a touch of wallpaper.Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.10.53 AM

Four: Take it Outside. Give your outside space some sea side character by incorporating weather friendly teak or rattan furniture, galvanized pots, outdoor lanterns or an Adirondak chair.Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.54.42 AM

Five: Sea Inspired Art. It’s easy to find tons of great art these days on Etsy, One Kings Lane and Minted. Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.52.20 AM

Six: Bring the Outside In. Go for a slightly tropical vibe with a fiddle leaf fig or some succulents or get a Hamptons look with classic blue or white hydrangeas. Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.22.39 AM

Seven: Shiplap!  This one deserves an exclamation point because it’s one of my favorite ways to add a coastal touch.  Consider adding a wall of white painted shiplap in a bath or hall. It has beach house written all over it. Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.49.37 AM

Eight: Give a Nod to the Nautical. Incorporate something brass or sailing inspired or both! Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 10.27.53 AM

Nine: Come Down with a Case of the Blues. Any shade will do.Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 11.06.44 AM

Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 11.09.58 AM

Ten: Add an Outdoor Fireplace. Or shower or why not both?Screen Shot 2016-05-29 at 11.16.38 AM

All images above Via Kelly Nutt Design Instagram feed. I’ve featured Kelly’s designs before on my blog. If you’re looking for more Southern California beach style inspiration, she’s one to follow. She always posts the most beautiful photos and you will not be disappointed.

Here are some ideas on how to get the look:
